Marshland Pedigree Ragdolls
Who We Are!
We are quite simply the Adams family, and we are crazy about animals! Our family currently includes:
· 4 British Bulldogs
· 2 Chihuahuas· 6 Ragdolls
· 3 Pygmy Goats
· 1 Tortoise
So, as you can probably imagine, there is never a dull moment in our house!
How Our Ragdoll Journey Began
Throughout my life, I have always had cats. I started out with what was affectionately known as a good old-fashioned “moggy”, and when I moved out, I went on to own British Shorthairs and Persians.
It wasn't until later in life that I discovered just how utterly amazing the Ragdoll breed is.
I bought my first Ragdoll, Lizzo, from a family friend who had been breeding cats for over 30 years. She kindly agreed to mentor me if I decided to breed from Lizzo – which, of course, I did!
When Lizzo had her first litter, with three children in the house it was probably inevitable that one of the kittens would be staying. And along came Mavis!
I was then offered a beautiful Tortie girl called Beau from the same breeder, and she fitted into our family straight away. When the time was right, Beau had her own litter and – yes, you guessed it – another kitten stayed! This time it was Nancy.
And that really was the beginning of our journey and how we found ourselves where we are today.
Always Learning
When I first started breeding, I quickly realised just how much there was to learn. Years later, I am still learning, and I don't think that should ever stop.
Breeding isn't simply about putting two beautiful cats together. I have learned so much about the Ragdoll breed, genetics, health testing, bloodlines and the importance of choosing the right stud for each of our girls.
Finding the right stud is incredibly important to me. On more than one occasion, I have made a seven-hour round trip – twice – to take one of my girls to the stud I believed was right for her. For us, convenience will never come before doing what we believe is best for our cats and their future kittens.
GCCF Registered & Council Licensed
All of our breeding cats are registered with the GCCF (Governing Council of the Cat Fancy), which you could describe as the feline equivalent of the Kennel Club.
GCCF registration gives breeders standards and rules to follow and helps promote responsible pedigree breeding, including consideration of health and welfare.
We are also licensed by Borough Council of King's Lynn & West Norfolk.
So, what does being licensed actually mean?
It means our breeding activities are subject to licensing conditions and inspections. We have policies, procedures and records covering the care and welfare of our cats and kittens, and we must demonstrate that we are meeting the required standards.
As part of the licensing process, an Animal Welfare Officer can inspect our home, our cats, their environment and our records to make sure that we continue to meet the required standards. Doug and I had our inspection, which took several hours, and we were absolutely over the moon to be awarded:
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is the highest star rating that can be awarded to a new business under the licensing star-rating system.
We strongly believe that anyone breeding animals should have standards to follow and should be accountable for the welfare of the animals in their care. These are living, breathing animals who depend entirely on us, and they deserve nothing but the very best.
Welcome to our slightly crazy, animal-filled family! 🐾
